About Us
The History of Home-Start in South Holland
Discussions regarding the need for a Home-Start scheme had been going on for several years with various agencies and at the inaugural meeting on 10th June 2005, a committed group of people agreed to form the initial Home-Start South Holland steering group.
Since that time, the committee has been actively fund-raising; developing action plans and an overall business plan; raising the profile of having a Home-Start within the community; networking with other agencies; researching and gathering concrete evidence; establishing a charitable company limited by guarantee; and strengthening relationships with Home-Start UK and neighbouring schemes, in particular Home-Start Boston. The trustees have overcome numerous hurdles over the past 2 years and remain totally committed to the project and we are acutely aware of the needs faced by many families in South Holland and know that Home-Start is a valuable service offering the type of support and friendship needed by parents to help relieve the stresses of family life.
On April 8th, 2008, Home-Start South Holland was awarded a grant from the Big Lottery Fund worth £282,896 over 5 years. This prestigious award has made it possible to develop and deliver a Home-Start scheme in South Holland offering a valued service to families facing difficulties. We look forward to a flourishing service over the next few months.
